Really?.What does Drupal 7 Vendor Extended Support (D7ES) entail and do for me?.Does this mean I have to pay for support to continue using Drupal?.OMG is this drupalgeddon?! What can I do? Do I have options?.Drupal has great standard features, like easy content authoring, reliable performance, and excellent security. It's used to make many of the websites and applications you use every day. PHP & Symfony have versions going EOL too? Make something amazing, for anyone Drupal is content management software. Millions of websites depend on D7 & D8, why are they doing this?. ![]() What is Drupal End of Life (EOL), why should I care, & what does it mean to me?.In this essential DrupalCon session, join the team from Tag1, for a deep dive on the following topics. The only difference between the Drupal 9 release and the Drupal 8 LTS release is Drupal 9s updated dependencies and removal of deprecated code. Drupal 9 was released alongside Drupal 8.9, a long-term-support (LTS) minor release of Drupal 8. To date, only 2 organizations, including Tag1, have been authorized to provide commercial support services for legacy versions of Drupal. Check out the release cycle overview for more details. This means Drupal 7 will be supported throughout Drupal 9's life. In light of the impact of COVID-19 on our community, Drupal 7 is supported until January 5, 2025. Vendor Extended Support started when Drupal 6 was designated EOL around 5 years ago. Drupal 7 community support is provided until January 2024 In the past, after a new major version, support would only be kept for the prior major version (such as Drupal 6 becoming end-of-life shortly after the release of Drupal 8). To ensure organizations that rely on these platforms can continue to securely run, operate, and build on top of their applications, a select number of organizations will be authorized to provide paid commercial support through an official Drupal 7 Vendor Extended Support (D7ES). That means there will be no further security fixes implemented, so to keep your project safe and secure against potential threats, it is strongly advised to upgrade to the latest version of Drupal. Upon reaching EOL, the automated testing for D7 & D8, which is critical for development & updates, will be turned off and there will be no more official releases, bug fixes, security team patches, etc. The Drupal 8 EOL date is November 2nd 2021.This is because Drupal 8 has a dependency on Symfony 3 which has an end-of-life in November. Their popularity, combined with potentially difficult upgrade paths for D7 in particular, has site owners asking why this is happening, what it means for them, what they can do about it, and when they need to deal with all this. Over a million websites rely on Drupal 7 & D8, and both reach the end of life (EOL) in 2022 (recently extended from 2021). ![]()
